An immune deficiency occurs when an individual has a defect in their immune system making them susceptible to recurrent or serious infections. Most immune deficiency starts in early childhood but in certain circumstances it may not develop until adulthood. Immune deficiency can only be detected by blood tests. Unfortunately, immune deficiencies are not detected for several years because immune blood tests are not part of routine testing.
Your consultation with an Allergist/Immunologist will help determine which immune system blood tests are necessary for you.
The Jeffrey Modell Foundation provides educational material regarding the 10 warning signs of immune deficiency.
